Constant Change Blog
find out more about the new album here
Making an album is quite the long, heartwrecking and beautiful process.
If you want to find out more about the album and the songs,
I will be telling you about it here.
New chapters every once in a while.

Chapter 1 . Title and Theme.
This album contains 12 songs that I wrote during the last couple of years.
Most of them I wrote when I was outdoors, somewhere in nature. The idea for the album sparked on a long-distance-hike in Sweden in 2020. While walking I thought of older and newer songs that I still wanted to record and release into the world and came up with the title for the album.
"Constant change" is the theme that holds all of the songs together.
The record contains my thoughts on how constant change affects so many different areas in our lives, in beautiful and painful ways. When we are surrounded by nature then we are surrounded by constant change. Just as our emotions, dreams and relationships evolve, grow and change constantly.
That is what these twelve songs are about.

Chapter 2 . Recording, Mixing and Mastering.
This album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Daniel Schobert (Kraken Audio) who understood my vision of keeping this album as intimate and simple as possible (thank you!!!).
We recorded all the song in January 2022 at the Unique Musique Studios in Bischberg (thank you Alex!!). Four days of playing the twelve songs again and again, until they felt just right. Most of the songs are "one take recordings", that means, I played the guitar and sang at the same time until we had a take where everything sounded nice. Correct chord progression, lyrics, strumming, speed and almost most importantly: the feeling. Only harmony vocals and some synths were added later.
On these twelve songs, you will hear me playing the guitar, some synths (added by Daniel) and my vocals with harmonies that I sang, too. With these songs, I want to invite the listeners to pause and listen, to discover the stories and images, which can be found within the songs.

Chapter 3 . Choices, Choices, Choices
During the making of an album there are a million choices to be made. These decisions have to be made before, during and after the recordings. Some of the decisions to be made are: How many songs should be on the album? Which songs should be on the album? In which order? What will the album title be? Are there gonna be singles? How many? Which songs? Of the recordings, which take did we like best? Which version of the mixes fits the song best? Should there be synths? Drums? Other instruments? Does the master sound good on different devices? Does everything feel right?
With Jana Cohen being a solo singer-songwriter-project, in the end, I can choose all that for myself. Which is amazing, cause it gives me freedom and I can focus on what I want for my songs. On the other hand, it can be soo hard (especially after listening to your own songs for so many times), to make good decisions. I am happy to say that I have had some help along the way, sweet people who discussed sound and mixes, song and tracklist decisions. And nature, to help me come up with the album title :)
